When to Use PIN Lock
Use Till PIN Lock when one counter device is shared by multiple staff or sits where customers can reach it. It is faster than logging out and safer than leaving an admin sale screen open.
- Enable it for busy counters with multiple cashiers.
- Use idle auto-lock when staff may walk away between sales.
- Keep it off only for private back-office devices that already lock another way.
- Pair it with named users and roles so actions remain traceable.
Configure Idle Timeout
- Open Manage -> Features and enable Till PIN Lock.
- Open Manage -> Till PIN Lock.
- Choose Lock when idle.
- Use Only when asked when staff manually lock the till after each use.
- Use After 2 or 5 minutes for public counters.
- Use longer values only when the device is supervised.
- Save through the settings flow and test the lock behavior.
Staff PIN Rules
The feature description says staff unlock with a four-digit PIN. Treat that PIN like a cashier credential, not like a shared shortcut.
- Each employee should have their own PIN.
- Do not write PINs near the till.
- Change PINs when staff leave.
- Do not let one cashier unlock for another cashier's sale.
- Managers should know how to recover access without sharing their own PIN.
Operational Checklist
- PIN Lock feature is on.
- Idle timeout matches counter risk.
- Every cashier can unlock with their own PIN.
- Admin accounts are not left open on public screens.
- The shop has a manager recovery process.
